pasUnity 4.64.0.0 RTM is now generally available.

This release of pasUnity brings minor enhancements to allow for encryption in transit when communicating with SQL Server databases and allows services to automatically detect changes in state without requiring a restart.

Security Enhancements

The SQL Server job steps now exposes an Encryption property that can be used to enable encryption in transit when communicating with SQL Server databases.  The default is None for backwards compatibility and because the likelihood of using this setting is low in most environments.  When Enabled is selected the remote SQL Server must have a server certificate configured and it will be used to encrypt communication.  A value of Strict is even more restrictive in that a certificate must be used but the name of the SQL Server host must be included in the certificate as well which is not common in most environments and not frequently used with wildcard certificates or connecting via IP addresses or NETBIOS names.

The pasUnity Configuration Manager now allows you to use encryption to secure communication to the product databases.  This applies both to the GUI and the Services.  It can also be used when initially configuring or upgrading the product using the Database Upgrade tool.

Product Enhancements

Any communication between other pasEnterprise suite components (such as pasPortal or pasTransfer) is performed using WCF web services.  In some environments Windows Defender has been know to sporadically interfere with the ability to make web service calls.  If this happens you will typically receive an exception message such as "The request channel timed out attempting to send after xx:xx:xx" in your job failure logs or system exception log tables.  This update features an automatic retry in the event this condition occurs to mitigate this fairly rare but potentially troublesome condition.  No configuration or special setup is required.
