Working with Messages

Messages are complete email transmissions consisting of headers, views, and attachments as received from a POP3 mailbox store as configured on an Account.

When clicking on either the Database Messages or POP3 Messages nodes on an Account an editor will appear that displays a grid of messages on the top and show detailed contents of messages along the bottom.  When navigating to this view from a Work node only the the detailed message contents will be visible.

Message Management:

When the summary display grid is visible there will be a series of columns with image buttons in them that have the following actions:

Click the  button to delete a message.  This will either remove it from the database or from the POP3 server.

To forward or reply to a message click .  A dialog will appear prompting you for an email address to forward the message to.  Upon entering the email address, the message will be forwarded using the SMTP configuration of the agent on the local workstation.

For messages that are stored in the Database Messages folder you may click the  button which will force a message to be enqueued for processing again as it was when first received by the system.  Any impellers which meet the criteria for execution will be enqueued (unless they are already in the queue in which case they will have their hold status reset).

For messages that are stored in the Database Messages folder you may click the  button which will prompt you for a file location to export the message in EML format and then import it into another account or view in an external email client

To view the contents of a message click on them in the data grid and the contents will appear below.

Message Viewing

When viewing your message in the detail pane a tab strip will be generated based on the content and status of the message with the following tabs:

Message Content: this tab will contain the headers, attachments, and alternative views stored within the message.  If the view contains HTML a split screen will appear that shows the rendered HTML and the HTML source code.  To download all attachments, select the Message Name node to open the message viewer.

Job History: this tab will only appear if there is job history for the message otherwise the tab will be hidden.  One line of history is visible for each attempt at processing the message.

Work In Queue: this tab shows all work in the queue impelled by this message.  This includes active work, work on hold, and failed work still in the queue.  This tab will not be visible if there is no work to display.

For messages that contain attachments you may download attachments in one of two ways:

To download all attachments, select the Message Name node to open the message viewer.  From here select the Attachments tab and right-click on Attachments, and select Save All Attachments... from the context menu.  You will be prompted to select the file save location.  Click OK and all attachments will be downloaded to that location.

To download a single attachment, select the Message Name node to open the message viewer.  From here select the Attachments tab and then expand the Attachments node.  There will be one line per attachment with the attachment name listed.  To save an individual attachment, select and then right-click on the attachment name and select Save As... from the context menu.  You will be prompted to select the file save location.
